These days, Bovino has a lot of time on his hands, and he\u2019s using that time to post about wanting his job back\u2014and offering to go to New Jersey to \u201chandle it himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the past week, work and hunger strikers detained at ICE megajail Delaney Hall in New Jersey\u2014and their supporters on the outside\u2014have protested for safer conditions and, ultimately, for their freedom. <\/p>\n

Allegations of ICE agent violence, expired food, and refusal to provide medical care continue streaming out of the detention center, where most people detained have not been charged with a crime. 300 people detained at Delaney Hall signed a letter earlier this month saying they are \u201ctortured physically and psychologically\u201d at the facility.<\/p>\n

ICE agents\u2014and, later, New Jersey state police\u2014have met protesters inside and outside Delaney Hall with violence, pepper-spraying people, beating them with batons, tasering them, and in one instance, pushing one person into the path of an oncoming eighteen-wheeler.<\/p>\n

To Bovino, though, that\u2019s not going far enough. During an apparent layover at Newark Airport on Thursday, he asked his followers: \u201cShould I just handle this myself?\u201d<\/p>\n

Between posts, he admired Hunger-games themed fanart of himself and replied \u201cYep\u201d to accounts begging that he be returned to his old gig.<\/p>

\u201cICE Agents at Delaney, hang in there,\u201d he wrote Friday. \u201cEvery one of us wants to be shoulder to shoulder with you.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cGive them hell, and live the moment!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Neither DHS nor any other leaders actually in charge seem to be listening to Bovino. On Friday, New Jersey\u2019s Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced that she would be sending in state police to \u201clower the temperature\u201d and create protected protest zones at Delaney Hall.<\/p>\n

\u201dWe all need to do everything we can to cool things down now,\u201d Sherrill, who has repeatedly called for Delaney Hall to be shut down, said at a press conference announcing the state police takeover. \u201cI will not give ICE the pretext to expand operations in our state.\u201d <\/p>\n

But conditions inside and outside Delaney Hall remain dangerous. Last night, state police \u201clived the moment,\u201d as Bovino would say, by moving in on horseback and pushing protesters back with riot shields and, reportedly, pepper balls and rubber bullets. The work strike inside Delaney Hall, according to organizers with the No ICE In North Jersey Alliance, is ongoing. And Greg Bovino is still unemployed and posting, but state violence pushes on with or without him.<\/p>\n

Anyone who works in digital media knows two painful truths. First, depending on how your billionaire boss is feeling, you could wake up jobless anytime. Second, as fun as posting online might be, it rarely changes anything in the real world; you have to go outside to do that. But Bovino doesn\u2019t seem to have learned what every former Buzzfeed listicle laborer knows just yet.<\/p>
